In this post I ramble to myself about things no-one cares about as related to NieR's canon and Devola's (and I suppose by extension, Popola's) part in it.

If you couldn't see the big red text warnings in other posts, "HERE THERE BE SPOILERS", well, there's one right there, as well.

I welcome any questions, arguments, discussions, et cetera. I guess you could tall this a kind of a second HMD in that regard, only more geared towards jawing about NieR in general.

- What exactly are the androids, anyway?
Vaguely defined in-universe and technically referred to by the wrong gender-denomination, for starters (yes it's fairly unisex in usage. hush.) Android's kind of a catch-all term for any humanoid automaton, which, technically, would include the Replicants and more likely than not Number 7, as well. Anyway. As I see it there's two likely explanations.
First is just simply "robots." Sensible enough from the standpoint of making something to last for an indefinite amount of time, though questions start to arise from why exactly they look so... well, human. Especially compared to the Junk Heap's boxy machines. A waste of resources and such, especially considering Replicants weren't supposed to develop sentience and thus there being no need for the Androids to blend in.
So yeah, there's a reason I'm a bit more partial to the second explanation, which boils down to "second-generation Replicants." Considering that they had the technology to manufacture artificial humans wholesale, straight down to making them genetic copies of currently-living humans, it's not unreasonable that they'd apply the same technology to creating caretakers instead of creating a whole new type of being. That isn't to say they're exactly the same as Replicants, obviously -- that whole "unaging immortality" deal, and all. It's more like a case of modding something, they were given unaging bodies (considering Emil and Halua preceded them, probably easy enough to do) and rudimentary autonomy within a set of rules designed to maximize project Gestalt's success.
Too bad D&P were kinda shitty at their jobs, huh?
